Thank you for visiting the West Virginia Office of Equal Opportunity’s website. This Office was created to provide expert knowledge to various stakeholders, including state agencies, on the state and federal laws governing equal employment rights. Our goal is to also have an in-depth working knowledge of the challenges facing West Virginian minorities and those living with disabilities.
According to W. Va. Code § 5A-1-11, the authority granted to the West Virginia Office of Equal Opportunity includes but is not limited to:
Advising and assisting in the development of comprehensive policies and programs to assure compliance with federal laws;
Assisting in the creation of rules and standards relating to the review, investigation and resolution of complaints of discrimination in employment, education, housing, and public accommodation;
Representing the state on local,state, and national committees and panels related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Act;
Advising the Governor and agency heads on ADA and EEO issues; and
Educating managers and supervisors on regulations and related issues.
